Etuners – recommended upgrade stages for the Peugeot 207

These are the recommended upgrade stages for our beloved Peugeot 207. We strongly recommend making sure the engine is in good health before remapping. All the common problems THP engines face need to be addresses and proper maintenance needs to be done. Using a remap on a healthy engine will produce incredible results and lots of fun for the driver. Using a remap to compensate for power lost due to engine malfunctions is a poor way of dealing with the problems that may be hiding behind them.

THP150 – Peugeot 207 1.6T XS / GT / Rallye / THP150 (engine code EP6DT) and THP156 engines (EP6CDT)

  • Stage 1, when the only upgrade is an ECU remap and everything else is kept stock. Performance reaches 190+hp on 98RON fuel from 150hp. One more example here.
  • Stage2, when an intercooler is added to the car. With the larger ic added,  power delivery can climb to 200-205hp.
  • Stage3, when the car has fully upgraded peripheral parts such as: cold air intake kit, front mount intercooler, upgraded exhaust and potentially water/methanol injection. Power levels rise up to 220hp, which is the maximum that a THP150 turbo can produce on good fuel.
  • Stage4, with hybrid/big turbos installed on a stock engine along with everything else from stage3. Power levels depend mainly on the turbo, but in most cases are over 250bhp but below 300bhp.
  • Stage5, when we have hybrid/big turbos along with upgraded cam shafts installed on a fully built engine. The stock engine cannot withstand this level of power. It is possible to reach power exceeding 400bhp, everything depends on the exact setup.
  • When THP150 engines receive a THP175 turbo from the Peugeot 207 RC/GTI, they also get upgrade levels from them.


THP175 – Peugeot 207 1.6T RC / GTi / THP175 (engine code EP6DTS)

Because the RC/GTI has a turbo with a larger compressor wheel, it can produce more power compared to the THP150. The stock intercooler unit is the same between THP150 and THP175, so the bigger model overheats and loses performance even as stock on relatively warm days (ambient temperature around 20C).

  • Stage 1, when the only upgrade is an ECU remap and everything else is kept stock. Performance reaches 205+hp on 98RON fuel from 175hp.
  • Stage2, when an intercooler is added to the car. With the larger ic added,  power delivery can climb to 220hp.
  • Stage3, when the car has fully upgraded peripheral parts such as: cold air intake kit, front mount intercooler, upgraded exhaust and potentially water/methanol injection. Power levels rise up to 230hp-240hp, which is the safe maximum that a THP175 turbo can produce on good fuel.
  • Stage4, with hybrid/big turbos installed on a stock engine along with everything else from stage3. Power levels depend mainly on the turbo, but in most cases are over 250bhp but below 300bhp.
  • Stage5, when we have hybrid/big turbos along with upgraded cam shafts installed on a fully built engine. The stock engine cannot withstand this level of power. It is possible to reach power exceeding 400bhp, everything depends on the exact setup.

    Interesting is that in the Peugeot documentation, the part numbers for THP150 and THP175 turbos are identical…

      Generally speaking, it can hold up to 380Nm with ease. If not more – when it is in good shape.

    Hi guys, after much reading online i have just bought A 2008 Peugeot 207gti. I have a lot of questions but for now i”me just introducing myself to the group and asking a few:) Car is immaculate, one owner with only one diagnosed problem. ESP module is faulty so no traction control which is not something i”me bothered about. Engine sings like a sowing machine with 147000 on the clock. Its been very well looked after by its previous owner, an old accountant with two other Pugs. Ime unsure of the engine type. I”me hoping its the 175HP job. How do i tell guys? Its completely stock, which i plan to change with only sensible mods. Maybe a stage 2 max. Any recommendations as to which would be the best option as far as brand of tuner? Ive had quite a list of previous cars including a few hot hatches. Ime no spring chicken,lol. I started with an LJ GTR UX1 a long time ago:/[1977].Wish i still had that! Ive only had the Pug for a few hours, is it normal for the speed limiter/cruise control to affect performance? It was set at 65Ks and seemed a bit sluggish till i turned it off. NOW it feels better:) Still way to slow for me though! Enough for my first post i think. Cheers guys:)

    The cupra intercooler make some lag in a 207 RC ?

      Although the cupra intercooler is almost 2 times larger than the stock one, it causes no measurable lag.
