Back in 2007, EA888 engines first appeared in the Audi A3 1.8 TFSI (this one is a BYT). Their first generation featured a single narrowband lambda sensor in the exhaust, Bosch Motronic MED17.5 ECU management and incredible performance gains with tuning. Strangely enough their OEM calibration included extremely lean Air-Fuel Ratio settings. Perhaps it was the first implementation of Euro4 exhaust emissions that forced the OEM calibrators into doing so. In the tuning world, this particular feature lead to a lot of problems when piggiback units were installed for tuning. The solution came a few years later, by properly remapping the ECU directly.

With an #etuners Stage1 ECU remap we unleash the hidden potential for much more and reliable power. This remap not only increases boost and ignition. It modifies torque modelling, improves throttle management by making it more direct. A lot of time and effort has been spent improving the fueling so that the engine is reliable and its longevity is not affected by tuning. We hope that our A3 customers will enjoy driving it as much as we did while designing the remap.

Although our test car was 10years old and had 100.000km on the dashboard, it performed very well both as stock and tuned.
