Peugeot 207 1.6 THP / RC / GTi / GT – Seat Ibiza Cupra Intercooler installation

The stock intercooler unit on the Peugeot 207 is very small. All the turbo versions share the same one, ranging from the smallest diesel turbo engines, up to the most powerful in the range – the Peugeot 207 RC / GTi. For reasons of economy of scale, all these cars share the same intercooler/radiator assembly. It is very convenient for Peugeot at the production line too, because both HDI and THP models use the same.

Because of its small volume, the stock intercooler is not very friendly to tuning. In warm and tropical climates it causes overheating and heat soak on the 207 RC/GTi as stock, to begin with. Tuned models are even more prone to overheating.
As the engines become more powerful, the higher the requirements for a good intercooler. A very good solution is the unit from the Seat Ibiza Cupra, produced by JDeus. While the Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.8T 20V was in production until 2008, this unit was unavailable to the market. After the cars production stopped, JDeus -who is the original part manufacturer- released it to the market. In terms of power, it can handle levels in excess of 350hp without having overheating issues. It makes sense, it is almost 3 times larger than the stock unit.

Although it is not exactly a direct fit, the installation procedure is relatively easy for any DIYer with a little bit of time to spare. The benefits from the larger intercooler unit are very obvious immediately after the installation.

Great Job. I am going to install ibiza cubra fmic in my 207 rc but I have a few questions:
    1. How big is the lag after the modification? Is it significant?
    2. Is the maximum power and torque going to decrease after the modification?
    3. Is turbo pressure going to decrease?
I am asking because I would like to install a fmic and wait a few months before ecu remap. Or do you advice to remap immediately after fmic installation? Thank you in advance for any provided information!
