Porsche Panamera 971 TurboS E-hybrid 4.0TT V8 – Stage2 100RON
The Porsche Panamera TurboS E-hybrid was the first production car to use a very powerful hybrid Power Unit, as the heir to the Porsche 918 Spyder‘s technology. It combines the allmighty 8-cylinder 4.0TFSi engine with 550 hp together with 130 hp from an electric motor hidden inside the gearbox. Total combined power reaches 680 hp / 500kw in factory form. Or at least that’s what the manufacturer states!
When a few months ago we measured a Panamera GTS, same engine but without the electric motor, we found the factory power to be at much higher levels than the manufacturer states. Instead of 550hp in the engine, the car made 550whp with upgraded downpipes, filters and intercooler on stock software. Something that usually does not happen with the Audi RS6 C7, which in theory was the same engine. The performance, in true, is similar to the Audi RS6 C8 at 600hp. The turbos and intake arrangement, with side-mounted intercoolers instead of heat exchangers shows that Porsche used everything that was available for the RS6 C8 before the model was presented to the general public, despite stating lower power.Or that the RS6 C8 used the Panamera’s configuration, replacing the C7’s hardware setup.
In this case, with upgraded parts, instead of 680 horsepower in the engine, the combined power of the gas engine and electric motor reached 720whp. Strange? Not so much. Just like the previous non-hybrid Panamera, it was a case of more available power to the wheels with fewer power losses due to the electric motor being inside the gearbox.
We developed a Stage2 tune for the Power Unit management ECU. Which releases combined torque and power limitations: Both the gasoline engine and the electric motor can deliver maximum torque from low revs and maximize their performance at high revs.
Big total gains in torque and power even from low revs, limited only by the need for a gearbox tune. The maximum combined power Power Unit power reached 817whp / 940hp and torque exceeded 1100Nm at the wheels. This was RS6 C8 performance together with a powerful electric motor and battery on top.
Many thanks to the owner for his trust and patience!
