Peugeot 406 2.0i 132hp – #Etuners Stage3 for Catcams STG1

It is very rare to find a Peugeot 406 with a 2 liter 132hp engine (XU10 RFV) nowadays, both in Greece and abroad. It is the least powerful Peugeot 16valve engine at this volume, specially when compared to the Peugeot 306 GTi. Both these engines on mechanical throttle. On their next revision they would gain driver by wire throttle, upgraded electronics, variable cam timing and eventually, a cylinder head by Mecachrome Motorsport to power the Peugeot 206 RC and Citroen C4 VTS by Loeb.

When we first tuned the car on stage1, engine power went up from 131hp/184Nm to 141hp/195Nm. It was not enough for the owner. so he got a set of upgraded cams, by catcams. We recommended a Stage1 kit, that would require no other mechanical modifications, just tuning.

When the car came back to us, it made 165hp on its stage1 tune together with the cams, but it was running very lean. A good sign for naturally aspirated engines – going lean after an uprade means there is more air going through the engine compared to before. An improvement in cylinder filling, which is the only way to gain power – other than forced induction. Maximum engine power went up to 175hp with 220Nm of torque. The gains were fantastic: 44hp and almost 35Nm over stock, on 95RON!

A big thank you to the owner for trusting us with his car.
