Peugeot 308 GT 1.6T – Stage4 Works Hybrid turbo 98RON (260bhp)

Hybrid turbos work very well on 1.6 THP engines. This one has had its turbo’s compressor wheel upgraded to a Mini Cooper S JCW. By doing so, the turbo gains top end performance without any penalty in spooling or responsiveness.
However, to get the maximum performance out of the engine the intake valves must be clean. If they are not, bad things happen, as can be seen on the dyno results.

The mechanical upgrades for this setup are very straight-forward. Cold air intake kit with a cone filter. Upgraded blowoff valve. Full exhaust. Seat Ibiza Cupra intercooler kit and its piping.

• 98RON fuel

Performance results

• Maximum horsepower: 259bhp (measured 173bhp with the hybrid turbo and stock mapping), gains 86bhp
• Maximum torque: 269Lbft (measured 187Lbft with clogged intake valves and stock mapping)

When the car first came in, performance was very low with the Stage4 ECU remap, making only 158hp. The stock map was even worse, it was making 136hp instead of 175hp. After cleaning, the engine managed to produce 259hp without any changes to the Stage4 mapping we used the first time.  This shows just how important engine health is. Tuners cannot compensate or fix underlying mechanical issues through mapping.
