VW Golf 6 GTI 2.0 TSI – Stage 1 / Stage 2 / K04 upgrade guide
Our recommended upgrade stages for the VW Golf 6 GTI 2.0 TSI (EA888) are as follows:
Stage 1
- Completely stock engine
- 98RON fuel (93 pump)
- Stage 1 ECU remap
Performance climbs from 211hp (stock flywheel power) to 270hp.
E-tuners extra features for Stage 1 remaps:
- Left foot braking
Stage 2
- Upgraded exhaust with a sports cat / decat modification
- Upgraded intake kit
- Upgraded intercooler
- 98 RON fuel (93 pump)
- Stage 2 ECU remap
Performance climbs from 211hp to 300hp.
E-tuners extra features for Stage 2 remaps:
- Left foot braking
- Noliftshift addon on manual transmission cars (not recommended for exhaust systems with the stock cat converter)
- Cat-check deactivation
K04 kit upgrade
The EA888 engine can receive K04 upgrades as long as the K04 turbo has been properly machined to fit the engine block or is part of a ready made K04 upgrade kit for a 2.0 TSI engine. There are quite a few in the market from different manufacturers.
- K04 turbo
- Upgraded full exhaust
- Cold air intake kit
- Upgraded intercooler
- 98 RON fuel (93pump)
- K04 ECU remap
Performance climbs from 211hp to 360hp.
With the addition of a water/methanol injection kit and an upgraded wastegate actuator (ie from Forge) further horsepower gains can be made on 98RON fuel.
E-tuners extra features for K04 kit remaps:
- Left foot braking
- Noliftshift addon on manual transmission cars (not recommended for exhaust systems with the stock cat converter)
- Clutch protect for avoiding clutch slip
- Cat-check deactivation
- Electronic blowoff valve delete (for owners using mechanical bovs)
